The Kerby Seniors’ Expo took place last week on Saturday, April 29th. Classic LifeCare’s Clinical Nursing Supervisor, Chelsey, and Client Care Coordinator, Eryn, attended the expo. On a sunny day in Calgary, a strong community spirit filled the room. Chatter and laughter were heard throughout from attendees of all ages.
A Day of Fun, Smiles, and Support
Despite the glorious weather, there was a steady flow of attendees. Attendees had the opportunity to learn more about the services available for seniors in Calgary. Unison organized a full day of events with food, entertainment, and sixty-five exhibitors around the room. A series of informative presentations were presented by Unison. These outlined the programs available for seniors that address food access, isolation, abuse, and more.
This year marks 50 years of the Kerby Centre in Calgary. The Kerby Centre helps adults 50+ years live better lives and engage in the community. Last year, they served 30,000 older adults in Calgary and found that approximately 90% experience daily stress. It is their mission to prevent struggle within this population by providing community partnerships and programs.
Interacting with Calgarians at the Kerby Seniors’ Expo
At our stand, Chelsey and Eryn outlined the home care services and approach from Classic LifeCare in Calgary. Some great conversations were had on how to start the home care journey. They also met the families of past clients and reminisced about old clients and caregivers. There was so much energy within the room, and everyone had a smile on their face.
Building Better Senior Support Services Together
The Classic LifeCare team also enjoyed meeting people from other organizations. Similarly, these organizations are dedicated to improving the lives of seniors in Calgary. It was a great learning opportunity for our team, with lots of information exchanged. It demonstrated that we can all come together to better serve the seniors of Calgary.
Overall, the Kerby Seniors’ Expo was lively and enjoyable. We look forward to doing it all over again in the fall!
