We recently interviewed Jamie, who has worked as a Health Care Aide in Prince George since 2011. She’s had a dynamic career with two company acquisitions. In 2018, she started working for Classic LifeCare and shares her insights and experiences in this blog.
Growing up as the daughter of an Air Force member, Jamie lived in various places across Canada, including Ontario, Alberta, and Vancouver Island. However, her love for the outdoors drew her to settle in Prince George. In her free time, she enjoys all things outdoors including hiking, kayaking, fishing, gardening, and cross-country skiing. Jamie believes that staying physically active has positively impacted her ability to work for as long as she has.
Though Jamie initially trained as an optician, she gained caregiving experience while supporting her mother-in-law. Jamie found caregiving more fulfilling due to its hands-on nature. She decided to complete a Health Care Aide course to enhance her skills and ensure efficient and safe care.
Career as a Care Aide in Prince George
Jamie eventually pursued a full-time career as a Health Care Aide in Prince George. Over the years, she has assisted numerous clients with a wide range of complex conditions. Her duties included personal care, companionship, meal preparation, housekeeping, and more.
When asked about her favorite aspect of her job, Jamie shared, “My favorite part is helping people stay in their homes for as long as possible. It’s where they feel most comfortable, surrounded by their life treasures.”
Jamie shared a rewarding story that brought her joy. “Recently, one of my clients transitioned from her home to a residential care facility as she could no longer continue living at home. I’ve been providing care for this lady for the past three years and we have built a good relationship. I was delighted to be able to continue caring for her in this new setting. Her move went smoothly, and she’s happy knowing that her regular Classic Care Aides visit her regularly.”
Jamie’s Rewarding Career Working at Classic LifeCare
Jamie has high praise for the Classic LifeCare team in Prince George, describing them as “the best I’ve ever worked for.” She has noticed a significant difference between Classic LifeCare and her previous experiences with home care companies. “Classic LifeCare stands out for its strong management, good organization, and effective communication. The administrative team is so friendly and supportive, making me feel comfortable reaching out to them when I have questions.”
When asked to sum up Classic LifeCare in three words, Jamie chose “I love it.” She is proud to be part of the Classic LifeCare team and particularly enjoys the Classic Cares program. She shared, “Some of my fondest memories at Classic LifeCare involve our team-building activities. The Prince George office hosts an annual open house, bringing together all field staff. I like meeting other Classic LifeCare employees and sharing stories.”
Jamie also appreciates Classic LifeCare’s strong involvement in the Prince George community. “Not only does Classic LifeCare provide care for seniors, but they also actively contribute to community, making it a place for everyone to thrive.” Jamie participated in a recent clothes donation drive, expressing her delight in contributing to such initiatives.
