Classic LifeCare takes the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

Classic LifeCare chose a chillier summer Friday afternoon to participate in the fundraising phenomenon sweeping the globe – the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge.

Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) is a rapidly progressive, neuromuscular disease. It attacks the motor neurons that transmit electrical impulses from the brain to the voluntary muscles in the body. When they fail to receive messages, the muscles lose strength, atrophy and die.

ALS can strike anyone at anytime, regardless of age, gender, or ethnic origin. It does not affect the senses, and only rarely affects the mind. Average life expectancy after diagnosis is 3 to 5 years.

The Ice Bucket Challenge has everyone from celebrities, to ALS patients, to school children challenging people they know to participate in the challenge, pouring buckets of ice water over their heads, filming the event and posting it on social media.

The ALS Association has raised more than $94 million through the bone chilling viral fundraiser.

Classic LifeCare donated $100 per staff member who took the challenge and challenged its sister company, CONNECT Communities Langley and Lake Country to take up the challenge next.
